Fantastic experience: If we could hear all the stories that were lived.... I would keep a part that is not explained. Young people unjustly imprisoned during Franco's dictatorship for refusing to do military service. Young people who said No to war. Unfortunately, that story is not explained.

Fantastic experience: An impressive fortress and a must-visit if you're in the area. This is the fifth time we've been and it never leaves us indifferent. Easy route suitable for anyone lasting approximately 1h 30'. The tranquility that you feel in the place makes the visit always worth it.

Fantastic experience: The visit was very interesting. We toured the fortress in 4x4s with some good guides. Then we entered the water tunnels with some boats and it was an experience. We ended up making a final tour but without guides. I recommend it!!!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommended, the guided tour with the Jeep is very good, and they also take you for a ride on a boat. We went with our 9-year-old son and it was the part he liked the most.

Fantastic experience: They offer guided tours in different languages, where you can visit the cisterns, which still have water, and ride in a 4x4 through areas that are usually not open to the public. If you don't want to pay for the entrance, you can always take a walk around the fortress, with views of the aqueduct and the Pyrenees. It's about 3-5 km depending on the route you choose, but it's of very little difficulty.

Positive experience: We had a problem.. The visit was in Catalan and when booking, they didn't tell me it could be in Catalan or Spanish (I called them to order speaking in Catalan and they must have assumed that we all understood Catalan).. it was the fourth time I came with my partner.. always with different people.. this time we came with a cousin of my wife who is Colombian and is on vacation and has only been here for three days and unfortunately he didn't enjoy the visit because he didn't understand anything.. I accept my fault for not asking when making the reservation.. but they could have made the effort.. and I am very embarrassed for the other visitors.. Catalans like me.. refusing to let the guide change the language.. it should be noted that the guide was willing if everyone agreed.. but since this was not the case, nothing could be done as the visit was scheduled in Catalan.. it should be said that fortunately or unfortunately in Catalonia everyone who speaks Catalan also speaks Spanish but the other way around.. no.. Conclusion... when booking, indicate the language of the visit.. so that it doesn't happen to you like it did to us.. It is a totally recommendable activity... very good experience and the guide very attentive and professional ..

Fantastic experience: The fortress of its style is the largest in Europe, and we have it here, at home, in magnificent conservation condition. A great visit that helps us understand how the defensive construction adapts to the way of fighting of the population it serves. Fully recommended to visit the miniature room to understand the function and dimension of this marvel.

Positive experience: A fortress that is very large and well maintained although some parts are somewhat more deteriorated but overall everything is quite good. You have several ways to see it and the simplest is to walk around inside and enter some buildings, even though it is the most basic it is quite good. Then you can see it from a Jeep and they show you around outside, I haven't done it but I think that's how it is. And I would say this has to be the best, which is to get underneath the castle through its moats and go in a boat, but if you're with kids, depending on how they are, they could get scared and that would be a problem. If you're in Figueras, it's a good option to go and cheap if you only do the visit on foot.

Fantastic experience: The Castell de Sant Ferran in Figueres is one of the most impressive and lesser-known fortresses in Europe, and it is a must-visit for any traveler exploring the region of Catalonia. This majestic castle, dating back to the 18th century, is a marvel of military engineering, with its huge bastions, moats, and underground passages that offer a fascinating insight into Spanish military history. As visitors stroll through its vast grounds, they can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Figueres and its surroundings, as well as explore the lesser-known corners of this imposing structure. Furthermore, the tranquil atmosphere and grandeur of the place provide a unique experience away from the usual tourist bustle. The Castell de Sant Ferran is a historical treasure that combines architecture, history, and unforgettable views, making the visit an enriching experience for all who wish to immerse themselves in the past while enjoying a truly impressive setting. Fantastic experience: In the shadow of the Dalí Museum, but not for that reason less interesting to visit, stands the imposing fortification of the Castell de Sant Ferrán in Figueres, just over a kilometer away on foot, which cannot be seen from any point. The splendid guided tour, in different languages and the one we were lucky to enjoy, led by Cristina, who showed us the complex map of the fortification, took us by Jeep along the long and extensive fort, as discovered (if you're not agoraphobic), through the various water cisterns that are still preserved, with pure, drinkable, and crystal-clear water, even if they are underground. A unique experience and more than recommended. Their website is not very up-to-date, but it is very much worth scheduling a visit. At the start, they give you a map, and you can enjoy the entire premises.

It's very beautiful and they explain everything to you, the reason for the shape of the castle and how everything was distributed, plus the boat theme, it’s amazing! I recommend bringing a flashlight that shines brightly, in the water tunnels, you can hardly see anything with the lights of the helmet they give you, and with a decent flashlight, the experience is multiplied by 1000. Fantastic experience: The Castle of San Fernando is a large Modern Age fortress, one of the biggest in Europe and the largest monument in dimensions in Catalonia. I was struck by the deer around the wall, the Parade Ground, and the stables. The interior visit can be made individually, conventionally, or as a school group, taking approximately 1-1:30 hours. However, I also recommend doing the exterior visit for €16 per person, as you will go by Jeep to visit the fortress walls (8 people and the guide) and you will get to visit the Cathedral of Water (accessing underground spaces such as: countermines and through the interior of the underground water reservoirs, navigating in a zodiac). I appreciate the attention of the guide Pau, for the excellent historical explanation, the attention and kindness shown to my 81-year-old father, as well as to the 4 French women and the 2 Barcelonans who were in our group. Eternally grateful. Thank you! ❤️ Recommendations: request the ticket in advance so as not to miss the exterior access, and take into account your mobility to access via steps, staircases, and the closed area, in the countermine and the cisterns. My father and I went by train from Tarragona and ascended by taxi, but the descent took 30 minutes from the castle to the train station. I totally recommend visiting: attentive staff, spotless, well-preserved place, and for anyone who enjoys history and adventure, go ahead!

Positive experience: Very close to the village or the center of Figueras. Tickets 10 euros Tour with jeep and to see the water galleries. 10 adults and 5 children. You must bring everything. That is, water and snacks. Since there is nowhere to eat up there. There are restrooms. Both tours are 4 hours long. The castle of San Ferran in Figueras, Spain is an impressive fortification built in the 18th century. There are many things to see inside and around the castle, including: The walls and bastions: The outer walls of the castle are imposing and designed to protect the fortress from enemy attacks. You can walk along the walls and admire the views of the surrounding countryside. The moat: The castle is surrounded by a large moat that was an important defense against enemies. Nowadays, you can walk along the moat and enjoy the views. The arsenal: Inside the castle, there is an impressive arsenal with ancient weapons and armor. The chapels: The castle has two chapels, one for soldiers and another for officials. Both are impressive and feature beautiful decorations and architectural details. The museum: The castle also houses a museum dedicated to the history of the castle and the Figueras region. Here you can learn more about the history of the castle and its strategic importance. The gardens: The gardens surrounding the castle are beautiful and carefully designed. You can walk through the gardens and enjoy the views of the castle and the city of Figueras.

Fantastic experience: Very good experience for going with children or friends, we took the guided tour with jeeps and a boat visit to the agibes, both guides were very friendly and gave us an explanation at every moment about how everything happened during the history of the fortress, after the Jeep tour that lasted about 30/45 minutes we went down to the agibes where they put us in a canoe where we paddled through the different reservoirs, it seems incredible how clear the water still is, the price was 16 euros per person. If you want, you can visit the outside of the fortress for free and if not with a more basic ticket you can walk around the area. I recommend calling to reserve a spot and above all try to go on a day without wind because it is horrible.

Fantastic experience: The guided tour is super cool! It's worth paying 16 euros per person to enjoy a 1h 40min tour with a 4x4 to see the fortress from the outside and a rubber boat to see the water reserves. Spectacular! Pau was our tour guide and he did it super well! We recommend it 100%!

Fantastic experience: We still don't understand how this visit and this fortress are so little known even within Catalunya. We can already tell you that we were delighted! We chose the complete tour: a visit to the perimeter in Land Rovers (please, never update them, they are iconic), a visit to the depots and a free visit to the fortress. The guides were great and everything overall was surprising. You can do it with kids, it combines 4x4, zodiacs, and fortresses, they will love it. Watch out for the exterior parking, there is a real risk of them smashing your window.

Fantastic experience: Magnificent visit to the largest fortress in Europe, San Ferran. We took a tour around the entire perimeter of the fortress, about 3.5 km, in jeeps. Accompanied by two amazing guides who explain the history of the fortress from its creation to the present, with many interesting comments. Then we went down in zodiacs to the water reservoirs that still have accumulated. The visit was very educational and interesting. The guides were the best. The only downside is that I went with my children, two kids aged 7 and 10, had to pay like an adult... I find it excessive to pay 15 for a child.

Positive experience: Visiting the town of Figueras, we drove up the road towards the hill where the castle or military fortress is located, to visit it. This site was also used as an old prison in the 18th century, being the largest bastioned fortress in Europe. It's a shame we couldn't visit its interior, it was closed to visitors, so we settled for seeing its exterior and imagining its magnitude, it occupies 320,000 m2 of surface area and its outer perimeter.

Fantastic experience: You can tour the castle for free from the outside and see a good part as well as do a walking tour of 3025m. If you want to do it inside, you have to pay 4€ per person. If you would like to do something more fun without walking, you can pay for the tour with the water fountains, which I recommend 100%, it only costs 16€ per person. Important, you need to book; in the photos I leave the number and the ticket of what I am talking about. The tour is done in a 4x4 and then in a boat/canoe. It's a whole experience lasting almost 2 hours, and you can also eat at the bar restaurant. If you come to Figueres, it could be one of the essentials on your list, as it is the most extensive in Catalunya.

Fantastic experience: Hello, we stopped by Figueres and decided to visit this fortified fortress. Built in the 18th century to defend against the French, it is the largest monument in Catalonia and the largest fortress with bastions in Europe. The entrance fee is €4 for adults, €3.50 for children of a certain age, and free for the youngest. They offer other tours that consist of going in a 4x4 through the moats or in a Zodiac through the underground water reservoirs. We did the basic tour, which follows a route of approximately one hour inside following an explanatory brochure. There is some part that disappeared during the Spanish Civil War, which is documented in some photographs. Money and time well spent. A must-visit, don't let it slip away.

Positive experience: The truth is that it is an impressive fortress, the views are magnificent from above, I only have some minor complaints, and it is that for example, my wife and I went with our 15-month-old daughter and the stroller, and that is the only thing I do not recommend. Visiting this site with a baby and a stroller is not advisable as there are areas of the cobblestones where the stroller gets stuck and some stairs that have to be climbed that are a bit uncomfortable. Other than that, it's a great place to visit with family and friends, plus we still have the visit to the deep part of the castle left to do, which must be impressive. On the other hand, it would be great if they allowed walking around the entire moat, since the visit feels short and I find a nice walk in that area interesting due to the imposing magnitude of its walls and defenses, which do not allow access. Just like when you visit the medieval city of Carcassonne where you have more freedom of movement.

Positive experience: We went for a self-guided visit because now with the whole Covid situation there are no guided tours. I hope the guided tour is more worthwhile because the self-guided entry is unimpressive, as there is no one to explain the route, there could be some plaques that better explain the points of interest. It is a site that is very neglected for how magnificent it can be. Fantastic experience: Excellent. The visit allows you to explore the castle and fortress in great detail, and although the brochure you receive is informative, it is true that if you are passionate about history, it falls a bit short, though it does allow you to slightly relive the experience of being on duty at the fortress while it was in use. You understand the choice of the location and its privileged setting when you are there and see with your own eyes the vastness of distance it covers. I would love for the national heritage to dedicate more resources to maintain the essence, not just of this place but of everything that exists or could be discovered, but I understand that funding is limited and they do what they can. I wish a guided service were offered where you could be explained in great detail the history, from the foundations leading to the construction of such structures with graphic samples of the architectural elements.

Positive experience: This fortress is the largest monument in Catalonia and the largest bastioned fortress in Europe, covering 320,000 m2. Built in the 18th century, under the reign of Ferdinand VI of Bourbon, it had a deterrent role against enemy invasion, in addition to being a fortified enclosure capable of housing a cavalry regiment. It also played an important role in the Spanish Civil War, becoming the headquarters of the Republican government. As a curious fact, Salvador Dalí did his military service here. Although the visit is good to learn about the facilities and the fortress, personally, it left me with a feeling of an incomplete visit, a kind of bittersweet taste. It is too superficial. You can see the buildings where soldiers and officers lived, but you cannot see any housing from the inside. You can see where the troops' canteen was, but you cannot see how it was inside. You can see the prison, but you cannot enter it. I think the visit needs to allow the visitor to interact a bit with the environment and the fortress.

Fantastic experience: The beautiful useless, as it is also called the San Fernando Castle because it never went to war. It is a very good experience. You can now take the guided tour that drives you in a jeep through the entire enclosure and main sites of the castle, where they explain the history of the castle. It includes a visit to some tunnels that lead into the countryside and explain why and for what purpose they were made. It also includes a boat tour of the huge underground water reservoirs that could supply the castle in case of isolation (very interesting, not recommended for those who suffer from claustrophobia) it is completely safe. It also includes some audiovisuals at the entrance of the castle that, to be honest, I didn't find very interesting. Basically, it was the same as what the guides explained, who by the way answer all questions you might have about the castle. They are very kind, pleasant, and attentive. The default language is Catalan, but they kindly ask if anyone doesn't speak it and provide it in Spanish. They also speak English and French and respond in these languages to the main questions or reviews. At the end of the tour, you can freely visit the interior of the castle (you can visit without paying the entrance fee) you can go to the stables (scenes from the movie 'Perfume' were filmed there), the inner streets where the soldiers' houses are located, courtyards and more. Additionally, the castle can be toured outside the walls and moats, which is a very frequented route by locals either walking or running. The views are fabulous. It is worth it. Walking, it is 20 minutes from the Dalí Theatre Museum. There is a viewpoint before entering where you can get a great view of part of the City. There is parking outside (but it is better to park inside for greater surveillance and access to belongings). The entrance is cheap at €3.5 and there is a discount if you are a student or meet the discount profile. You can request an audio guide. When I went, there was no guided tour. One advantage is that it is very large (not many people come compared to museums), you can also take photos of the architecture, enjoy the views, and I don't know if you can bring a packed lunch (I didn't ask, but there is a restaurant bar at the entrance that you can leave at the end). Bring sneakers, a hat, and water (there is a drinking fountain at the level of module 12 of the audio guide). At the beginning, there is an exhibition on the history of the fortress and a small museum of the weapons used in that era. If you don't have a time constraint, I recommend visiting it. The staff was also very attentive.

Positive experience: Incredible how well it is preserved, it is worth taking the stroll from Figueras. We were left wanting to take the boat ride through the cave below the castle but we will come back.

Fantastic experience: A castle with a military area that can be visited. It's worth seeing its walls and the huge stable. Some deer live under the bridge.

Positive experience: Taking a guided tour in a land rover and visiting the underground water reservoirs in a zodiac at the fortress costs 15 euros in April 2017.

Positive experience: It is a beautiful place, which represents a good part of the history between Spain and France, with beautiful views, it also conveys the perception of how people lived there during the 18th century, I give it 4 stars because I feel that more could be done regarding the guide and to make more use of the castle in all its magnitude.

Fantastic experience: The largest castle in Europe. The entry, although it costs 3 euros, is the cheapest of museums in the area.

Fantastic experience: A place to visit with family. I recommend the guided tour; if you go with kids, they will remember it. Very interesting, part of history and very close to the Dalí Museum

Fantastic experience: Recommended, as always, but this time with more reason, guide, zodiac ride and a lot of information about everything, I personally left delighted.
