Fantastic experience: I came to see the column of Cabestany from Sant Pere de Rodes, a jewel of Romanesque marble, a living history of our country. It still can't be .. The exhibition of photographs and oil paintings by Empordà artists is quite good. The facilities are model-like, just like the service. A 10

Michael John 17/08/2024

Fantastic experience: The main exhibition was closed for redevelopment but there was a retrospective of the work of a local artist in the ground floor space. His name escapes me. He suffered from mental health problems and art must have been a release and comfort for him. His unusual work was at times disturbing but the questions he raised in his work are relevant to everybody. For example, he painted portraits which contained thoughts and images on the reverse, reflecting appearance and reality, and studies of individuals involved in mundane everyday tasks, which he compared to the myth of Sisyphus - a man condemned by the gods to roll a rock up a hill and let it roll down again, permanently. Unforgettable.

Positive experience: Limited exhibition of modern art by local artists (one floor only, other floors in work). Free entry! Liked the use of ox shoulder blade as a squash racket, and mini robot taking pictures of random scenes with dogs and cars.

Fantastic experience: Since 1965 and by purchase from my father-in-law the decorator Domingo Serra Sin father of my dear wife Mari-Bel is a work that I contemplate every day the genius painter endowed to the houses reflected in the river of Girona with a beauty that I cannot describe...they fill me and satisfy my gaze ..much to my regret ..and after so many years ..I believe that despite how much I exposed it on Google as local Guides..I find myself forced to sell it, retired at 85 years old and my rent has been raised this January to 1,000 euros, I am forced to sell it, I wish it goes to the Ampurda museum if we reached an agreement which I hope is fulfilled because it has been with my family 4 children from Sitges.Platja d'Aro and finally Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Ampurdan Museum end...

Positive experience: Once in Figueres and having seen the Dalí Museum, it's worth visiting this other museum. The Ampurdán museum offers you two exhibitions. One temporary and local (in my case about local cuisine: El Bulli, Duran, and Motel) and another permanent with sculptural and painting works from the 19th and 20th centuries that encompass romanticism, surrealism, etc. It's worth it.

Carmen Pérez Sánchez 15/09/2018

Fantastic experience: The Empordà Museum was created in 1946, although the current building was constructed and inaugurated in 1971. 'Art has no past or future. When a work of art fails to remain alive, then it deserves no consideration whatsoever.' With this principle in mind, we began our visit to the Empordà Museum with high expectations, located in a spectacular area of Catalonia. Taste or the ability to perceive beauty and judge it develops through education and teaching. Designed as a museum of archaeology, history, and art, it houses one of the most outstanding art collections in the region. It is an institution that dedicates special attention to contemporary artistic creation. It focuses on research, conservation, and dissemination of the rich cultural heritage both locally and regionally. The permanent exhibition of the Empordà Museum consists of collections of archaeology: Attic, Italic, and Iberian ceramics; notable samples of megalithic culture (pieces originating from the corridor tombs of La Albera). It has a magnificent representation of works from Antiquity (Iberian, Greek, and Roman pieces). It features sculptures from the Middle Ages; sculptures and paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries (Gargallo, Tapies, Sorolla, Nonell, Mira, Vuixart). The art of the EMPORDÀ is represented with extraordinary works by internationally recognized artists such as: Dalí, Santos, Torroella, Blanquet, and Vallès. It is a spectacular and beautiful museum; we thoroughly enjoyed this visit. Art is sensations that, one way or another, reach the viewer. Sensations of all kinds, simply aesthetic or symbolic, of attraction or rejection. Sensations that move us, impress us, or provoke a certain mood. It has been a unique emotional experience. Art, if enjoyed in good company, will move you in an exceptional, unique, and unrepeatable way: like a daydream. All these sensations require an intellectual process to turn into an emotion.

They honored the free access for me, and if you don't go to the Dalí Museum, there is a price reduction if you meet the discount profile. It is located in the center of Figueres, it is a three-story museum, it has an elevator and benches (two) to rest during the visit, although you can walk through it in about 30 minutes (at a leisurely pace). The works are paintings, pieces, and manuscripts. It's a small museum, but anything educational and more free is very well received.
