Both the hotel and the restaurant across the small square are dreamy, tucked away in a tiny, stone village between Pals and Begur. Both operations have been beautifully renovated with a modern twist without taking away from their charming exteriors. All the tables had been carefully and wisely separated, and the welcome was warm and unfussy as we were led to our table, offered an apératif immediately along with our menus and the wine list. There are three menus - a la carte and two dégustation options. There are also three choices of local rice dishes (minimum 2 persons). Admittedly, I was wary that the food would arrive with a lecture on what it was and how to eat it - but none of that kind of over-the-top fawning or grandiosity was in play. Just your food served as ordered and feel free to pour your own wine. Attentive, but not silly, the way my wife and I like it. The food is quite delicious, fresh, local and beautifully presented. Such pleasures do not come cheap, but if you are planning something special - El Teatre is a perfect place and fairly priced for the quality of the food and wine along with the perfectly discrete, efficient and friendly service.
