En el año 97, cuando el turismo rural empezaba a dar sus primeros pasos, inauguramos nuestro sueño, el Hotel El Carmen. Lo construimos usando las piedras milenarias rescatadas de las ruinas de la cárcel de Gijón y sobre la pumarada de la antigua casona familiar. Siempre volcando nuestro esfuerzo en conseguir un espacio cálido que mezclara costumbrismo y sobriedad con la modernidad más confortable. Unos cuantos años más tarde conservamos intacta la ilusión por hacer que nuestros huéspedes se sientan en su casa, o si es posible mejor.
El hotel está ubicado en un lugar estratégico, muy cerca de las más hermosas playas del Oriente de Asturias, de zonas montañosas como los míticos Picos de Europa y del río Sella, mundialmente conocido por el Descenso Internacional que se celebra cada año el primer sábado de Agosto.
La aldea de El Carmen, a 4 km de Ribadesella se caracteriza porque a pesar de ser tan pequeña, cuenta con gran número de Casonas de Indianos (impresionantes casas señoriales que construyeron los emigrantes cuando volvieron a su tierra natal), la cueva de Les Pedroses, joya del arte paleolítico, y el Museo del Territorio, que se encuentra en el edificio de las antiguas escuelas.
